Share a Square* Presents: Family Sharing Fun

When we share our time, energy and belongings, it makes us happier. Sharing reminds us how much we have to be grateful for and how easy it is to make a difference in little ways. That's what Share a Square* is all about. Here are a couple of activities that will get your whole family to roll up their sleeves and start sharing!

Spring into a Toy Drive

Get your whole gang together and make it a contest to see who can collect the most clothes and toys to donate to the charity of your choice!

  • Set a family goal together so you're all working for the same great cause.
  • Pick a cause that you all believe in and explain to your children that when they share their old toys and clothes they are helping less fortunate kids.
  • Create a chart to track your family's progress and encourage your kids to ask their friends and classmates for donations too.
  • You could even visit your child's classroom during show and tell to get other kids to join in your toy drive.
  • Once you've reached your family goal, make a big trip of taking your donations to the charity you've chosen. Going to the charity office or drop-off centre will help your kids understand the impact that they are making by sharing.
  • Celebrate your successful drive with delicious treats everyone can enjoy!

Share the Love

You know that warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you see your child laughing or hard at work colouring a picture? Chances are you aren't the only one who basks in their glow. Share your children's light by volunteering as a family at a retirement home.

Spending time with people of different ages helps kids learn patience and kindness. Most retirement communities have existing volunteer programs, but feel free to come up with suggestions like setting up a lemonade stand and giving out Rice Krispies* Treats that you've baked together. Show your kids that sharing their time with others in need is rewarding and fun.
